Creative Writing Workshops

To support the David Evans Awards for Fiction, the Boonah Arts Collective together with Scenic Rim Law Practice offer Creative Writing Workshops on Saturday 26 July. Workshops will be run in two streams - one for young writers up to Year 9, and one for adults and young adults. Each workshop includes both poetry and prose.

PRESENTERS

Brisbane-based poet Rob Morris will be joining poetry judge and frequent Boonah visitor Ross Clark in a workshop to fine-tune poetry entries to the David Evans Awards. Rob will provide advice on how to improve the poem already on the page, before both poets offer some general advice on the writing and editing processes involved in the creation of good poetry.

Bill McMillan is a well-known local lawyer, avid book collector, and aspiring novelist. Bill has a keen interest in literature and is currently writing his first novel. He is particularly enthused by the opportunity to explore our local area through the festival theme. Bill will focus on the craft of creative writing, exploring elements of character, plot, description, dialogue and theme.

THE WORKSHOP offers practical tuition, focusing on creative inspiration, exploring the festival theme and editing skills, as well as specific advice for writing poetry and prose.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND All ages. Not only entrants of the David Evans Awards for Fiction, but anyone interested in building their creative writing skills.

BRING pen and paper, and one or two competition poems or short stories for review.
