Scenic Rim Art Awards
OFFICIAL FESTIVAL OPENING
FRIDAY 5 SEPTEMBER BOONAH REGIONAL ART GALLERY 6.30 PM

The 2008 Boonah SPAR Arts Festival opened with the Scenic Rim Art Awards. Wayne Wendt, member for Ipswich West officially opened the event and launched the AgriCultural Art Trail.
The $1,500 Scenic Rim Acquisitive Prize sponsored by the Scenic Rim Regional Council for the most outstanding work of art, was won by Alex Blair for her monumental 'Totem'.

The $300 Art and Soul Gallery Youth Award went to Indiana Chataway for 'Mother and Child.
The $400 Roy and Peggie Beaton Memorial Award this year went to John Jackson for 'Broken River, Burning Streams'. Encouraging artists over the age of 55, the prize supports community members who have come to art ‘late in life’ to enter the exhibition.
Exhibits were judged on originality and interpretation of thr festival theme - IMPRINTS … Yours … Mine … Ours … by Pauline Garner, curator and exhibitions manager of the Ipswich Art Gallery.
Scenic Rim Art Awards People’s Choice Award went to Alex Blair for 'Totem'.
Exhibition continued until October 12, and all works of art were available for sale.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
One entry per person per category, with a maximum of two entries overall.
Entry into the Roy and Peggie Beaton Memorial Late in Life Award is open to first-time exhibitors in the Scenic Rim Art Awards. Entrants must be over the age of 55.
Entry into the Youth Award is open to artists aged 18 and under.
All artwork should be personally delivered to the Boonah Regional Art Gallery, High Street Boonah between 10am and 12 noon or 1pm and 3pm on Friday 29 August. Entries may also be couriered or posted.
Each exhibit must be clearly marked Scenic Rim Art Awards, and marked on the back with name, address, title of work, category and selling price.
Each exhibit must be ready for hanging using D hangers.
Size of framed works, including frames, must not exceed 110cm wide and 250cm high.
No late, wet or unfinished entries will be accepted.
All exhibits will be for sale and remain at the gallery for the duration of the exhibition.
A gallery commission of 25% will be retained on all sales.
Exhibits will be judged on originality and interpretation of theme.
Should there be insufficient entries or not of a required standard, a prize may not be awarded. Awards may be shared if judges so decide. Entries deemed to be unsuitable in any category will not be exhibited.
Unsold artwork can be collected on Monday 13 October 2008 between 10am and 12 noon and 1pm and 3pm on presentation of receipt (other times by prior arrangement).

While all care will be taken with entries, the organisers cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage incurred before, during or after the exhibition.
