Blue-Kat Roar Music Awards

The Scenic Rim hills are alive with the sounds of music where local songwriters showcase their talent.

The original music competition culminates in the Awards Ceremony with entrants having the opportunity to perform their composition at the Blue-Kat Roar Music Awards night, with cash prizes awarded for the best performances.

Entries will be judged by accomplished musicians Christine Leah, classical pianist, Melanie Doheny, principle viola from the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra and the Doburslan Ensemble, and Loch Easton, bassist for many rock, pop, blues and jazz bands.

Entries will be judged on originality and creativity, including aspects such as lyrics, harmonic and rhythmic structure, melody and general appeal. Judges will also be looking for how the piece portrays the ‘feel’ of the festival theme, IMPRINTS … Yours … Mine … Ours…

First prize winners in both the open and youth categories for the original music competition will receive a professionally recorded promotional package worth over $1,000. This includes 20 hours of recording time on state of the art digital equipment for three original compositions. Runners up receive a recording package valued at $275 for one original composition.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
 Entries must be received by 29 August 2008.
 Multiple entries will be accepted.
 Collaborative entries are acceptable. Please list all names on the entry form.
 Entrants must be residents of the Scenic Rim Region.
 The composition must be an original work, must not have been previously released on recorded media, must not have been previously published or accepted for publication, or be under offer to any music publisher.
 Entrants must not be already signed with a recording label or music publisher.
 Each entry must be an original vocal or instrumental piece no longer than five (5) minutes in length, and be submitted on CD or cassette. Lyrics and manuscript are welcome. Entrants must provide two (2) copies of their entry and should ensure that they have retained a copy of their entry.
 The recording quality of recorded entries submitted is not relevant to the judging process, although it is advisable that recordings are of sufficient quality that the elements of the piece are audibly discernible.
 Entries do not have to be recorded or performed by the composer/s.
 All entries should be clearly identified only by the title of the work. No personal details may appear on the entry. As a precondition of the judging process, no composition will be forwarded to the judges if that entry is marked with the name of the entrant/s.
 A parent or legal guardian must sign each entry form for each entrant who is under 18 years of age at the time of submission.
 Each complete entry will be individually judged based on originality and creativity. Chance plays no part in determining the winner.
 Blue-Kat Records / Roar Music demo recording package prizes must be taken before 30 June 2009 and are redeemable by the winner/s only.
 Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash. In the event that for any reason a demo recording package prize winner does not take their prize or any part of their prize before 30 June 2009, all rights in relation to the prize or to that part of the prize is forfeited and cash will not be awarded in lieu.
 Copyright of the composition shall always remain with the entrant/s.
 The number of entries performed at the Blue-Kat Roar Music Awards will be limited to a maximum of fifteen (15). The first fifteen (15) entries received indicating a desire to participate will qualify to perform. Entrants will be notified of such no later than 25 August, 2008.
 The order of performers at the Blue-Kat Roar Music Awards shall be decided by way of random draw.
 Performers in the Blue-Kat Roar Music Awards who are under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
